Happy Holidays 2023

Happy Holiday season everyone!

I was chatting with a friend on social media, and she mentioned how she was unusually OK with the year coming to an end. Even after the get-me-outta-here feelings that everyone seemed to share 2020-22 with all the chaos, there was some sense of reminiscence about what we had all survived together.

Not so much this year. Maybe the raging apathy is in some sense a healing process, collectively curling up in the corner to lick our psychological wounds, metaphorically speaking.

To me, 2023 feels like the end to a prelude, the final notes of an overture with something more to come. Whether that something more is a new beginning or an explosive disaster is up to us. To paraphrase Rachel in a recent episode of Why Is This Happening podcast: match your level of anxiety with your level of activity. The more worried you feel {about the upcoming election} the more clear, positive action you should take.

It's good advice for anything, not just civic engagement. Actively DOing something about the thing that worries you can help ease the worry.

On one hand, things still may go down in flames like the Hindenburg part 2, but if they do you'll at least know that you did all you could to prevent or lessen it.

More likely it is as Mark Twain said "I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which never happened."

However 2024 unfolds, my wish for everyone is that it becomes a year of health, happiness and prosperity for us all.
